In the last decade, as much of The United Methodist Church has been in upheaval, The Methodist Foundation of Ohio has sought to be an island of calm. As churches considered disaffiliation, we remained open to working with them, managing their investments and endowments making sure they continue to have the resources for their ministry.

“The only thing that’s constant is change.”
A year and a half ago we started to hear of one Episcopal Area and two Annual Conferences. That has morphed into the merger of the Annual Conferences. While I agree that this is a good idea, there is more change. And it’s not just the church. The national political climate is changing. Economies around the world are in flux. The ancient Greek philosopher Heraclitus said, “The only thing that’s constant is change.”
In a world of change, we are still positioned as an Island of Calm.
Are we going to merge with the West Ohio United Methodist Foundation? Maybe. But neither organization sees a huge rush to do so. Much of the work that we do is similar, but there are differences as well. The Foundation may look different a couple of decades from now, but we are committed to coming out of that change:
- A safe trustworthy place for churches to invest their resources and learn to be stewards and leaders
- Fully transparent to our stakeholders
- A resource focused on local churches and their members
- Structured to allows us to respond to needs nimbly and effectively
- Focused on the future of the Church and developing principled leaders to serve it
- A safe trustworthy place for churches to invest their resources and learn to be stewards and leaders
Whatever your needs are for an Island of Calm, I hope you will find that with us.
